Source not found while installing packages to a running VM

Some of the dependencies when installing packages cannot be resolved due to the source not being found (404 error). How to solve dependency issues, e.g for installing Java and Ant?

The problem could be that the base image is outdated. “apt-get update” should be performed if packages cannot be found, e.g. to run :

  • apt-get update
  • apt-get install sun-java6-bin sun-java6-jre

Using a saved VM-image, but get error “Compute Creation failed: Error during execution”

If you want to save an image, you have to save the state, shutdown the vm and wait for the done-state. After that, you can delete the VM in the portal. If it is not done, save as will be aborted and an error like mentioned above will occur. Saving can take some time if you use rather huge images.

SAVE_AS command works at Inria or HLRS, but fails at iMinds

save_as works slightly differently in be-ibbt, as you have to end the whole experiment and not only stop the VM to be able to save the image.

Permission denied while trying to connect a VM

Which password must be used for connecting with the VM? I created an Experiment and then a VM on be-ibbt, and started the Experiment. After connecting me with the Wan Gateway, I typed in “ssh -A”, the IP I looked up in the xml File from the VM, after I used my password from the platform (the same one like the key) but it says.: “Permission denied, please try again.” Do I anything wrong?

For logging into a VM, the password shouln’t be required.

Please ensure that:

  • you uploaded your public key into the portal
  • when uploading your key, it may take up to 1 hour until it is published at each testbed site
  • create a ssh config which directs you to a ssh gateway and refers to your private key. For a windows user, please have a look at using PuTTY and Pageant .
